Desperate to get your kids off the diaper? Learn what age do babies stop wearing diapers and how to help them get over it fast!
If you are a parent of a baby, you are probably longing for the day when you don’t have to change diapers. It’s not exactly the highlight of parenting. They are also an expense that doesn’t seem to end. The good news is that babies grow up and will soon be out of the diaper stage. But what age do babies stop wearing diapers? There is no straight answer to that question! Every kid is different, so it will depend on the individual kid. But don’t worry, we’re here to help!
Use the Correct Size
Newborn babies go through a lot of diapers. It might seem like you are constantly changing their diapers. Don’t worry, this will slow down as your baby gets older. If it seems like you are changing their diapers too often or if it seems like the diaper starts to leak sooner than before, it might be time to move up a size. If they are waking up to a soaked diaper and jammies every morning, going to the next size up in diapers usually will solve the problem.
Older Babies In Diapers
By the time a baby reaches about one year of age, they don’t need a diaper change as often. Diaper sizes are made to fit babies based on their weight. Some babies move up in size fairly quickly while others stay in the same size for a long time. You’ve probably gotten to the point where you have a routine for when to change their diapers. As long as your baby produces wet diapers and has at least one bowel movement each day, you shouldn’t worry if they don’t need to be changed as often.
Time to Train
Sorry to say but you can’t make a child use the potty if they aren’t ready. Some kids are ready by the time they are 18 months old, but others might not be ready until they are 3 or even closer to 4. You are probably chomping at the bit to get them out of diapers, but you can’t force the issue.
If you notice your child seems interested in going to the potty, give them a chance to try it out. Show them how to pull their pants up and down and maybe even get them their own little potty chair. There’s no problem with practicing what to do if they catch on, great! If not, well, you can try again in a few days or weeks.
The key to getting your child out of diapers is not to push the issue. Don’t make it a battle. If you do, be ready to clean up lots of accidents. Once the child is actually ready to ditch the diapers, it will “click” and they will be using the potty on their own. It’s also important to note that even if they are trained in the day time, they might still need a diaper at night. It isn’t uncommon for a child to wear a nighttime diaper until they are 4 or 5 years old.
So, if you have been wondering what age do babies stop wearing diapers, you can rest assured that they will indeed get out of diapers eventually. The normal age range for potty training is between 18 months and 3 years. Once your child is ready, you can start spending that diaper money on something for yourself!
