There are certain things that every parent needs to realize and acquire knowledge of, like your baby taking in too much air when breastfeeding.
Every mother makes sure that her baby burps after nursing or while doing it. It is quite important to do as all the air that the baby swallow during breastfeeding gets out through the burps. If he/she won’t burp, it would make them feel uneasy and they may experience a feeling of fullness which can lead to a fussy baby who could even spit off the milk. Although, breastfed babies are less prone to taking in too much air than the bottle-fed but there’s always some that goes in. In some cases, it is possible that the baby didn’t consume appropriate amount of milk just because of the feeling of fullness. Therefore, in such cases, just try to make them burp after and during the nursing.
HOW TO MAKE THEM BURP
1.Just try to focus on the left side of their back as it’s where their tummy is located. Gently pat or rub their back until they burp. Sometimes, babies just need a hand massaging their back and they would burp in a minute. It all depends upon your baby how he/she is comfortable.
2. By changing the position of the baby, you can make them burp too. Place your baby’s tummy on your one leg and the head on your other leg and then rub the back gently.
3. You may try to make them walk if he/she has a good head control, along with yourself and applying gentle pressure to the bottom of the baby.
NOTE : Keep a cloth with you, in case the baby spits while burping which is also called a wet burp. Don’t confuse the wet burp with vomiting which is spitting off the entire milk that has been fed. If your baby is frequently vomiting, you must consult a doctor. Moreover, don’t feed your baby if he/she is overexcited as in such case, they swallow more air.
Is it something to be concerned of if the baby doesn’t burp?
No, because if the baby isn’t burping that simply means he/she hasn’t taken in much air or may be he/she is passing gas, which is almost same as burping. There is nothing to be bothered of as long as you’re taking care of your baby and keeping a check on things. Sometimes, they are unable to sleep and just need to burp. Therefore, you need to follow the tips to help them burp in that case. Such check on little things is quite essential.
